Knitting is a fun craft for all ages and is especially an exciting hobby to start for the beginner knitting enthusiast.  More and more people are learning to knit, because in an economic low as we are currently suffering, it is a functional craft as well as cheap entertainment. With that being said, and so many people learning how to knit, here are a few tips for the beginner knitting student.

Learn to finger knit. This is the easiest way to start out small children who want to learn. They can make things like hair ties, scarves and simple neck ties. It is a great way for the beginner knitter to start before picking up those needles and having to start counting each stitch.

Invest in a stitch counter as well as stitch holders. This will help you to keep track of where you are in a pattern when you put your project down. There is nothing worse for beginner knitter than forgetting where they are or having  yarn fall off the end of the needles because it was too loose. By having a stitch holder, you are placing stoppers on the ends of your needles so nothing can slide off of them.

When putting down your pattern for the day, try to remember to stop on an even row. That way, you will always know where you are. The complicated thing about knitting for the beginner knitter is that the front and back often look exactly the same and it is hard to tell which is which.

Beginner knitting projects should be  simple and straight forward such as a scarf or afghan squares. These are smaller projects that don’t require a lot of fancy work and is perfect for the novice who is still getting used to knitting.
